The things I like to do the best are drawing cartoons and hitting golf balls.

Explore Charles Schulz's love of golf in the Charles M. Schulz Museum’s newest exhibition, From Highland Park Caddy to Pebble Beach Celebrity: Schulz and the Game of Golf, running June 16 through September 27, 2010. On display will be Peanuts comic strips, photographs, Schulz’s golfing memorabilia, and a video of Schulz on golf.
Sports were important to Charles Schulz, and golf was one of his favorite games. From playing on his high school golf team to his late-in-life weekly foursome, Schulz not only enjoyed the game, but he excelled at it. Snoopy even assumed the role of “World Famous Golf Pro” in the Peanuts comic strip. And if the number of golf-themed Peanuts strips is any indication of his passion for the game of golf, Schulz created over 250!
Schulz described golf as having “this eternal challenge.... There’s no way of totally conquering it, and the highs and lows are so far apart.” In 1937, at age fifteen, Schulz played his first round of golf at the Highland Park Golf Course in St. Paul, Minnesota. He had a “real old miserable” set of clubs and shot a 156. The next time he played, he shot a 165, and after becoming “totally immersed in the game” a month or so later, he shot a 79, though it would not be until August 12, 1995 at the Bodega Harbour Golf Links in California that Schulz shot his first hole-in-one.
About the Charles M. Schulz Museum & Research Center
The Charles M. Schulz Museum opened in August 2002 to fulfill its mission of preserving, displaying, and interpreting the art of Charles M. Schulz. The Museum carries out this mission through changing exhibitions and programming that build an understanding of cartoonists and cartoon art; illustrate the scope of Schulz’s multi-faceted career; communicate the stories, inspirations and influences of Charles Schulz; and celebrate the life of Charles Schulz and the Peanuts characters.
