Leigh Rubin, creator of the comic strip Rubes, will be at the Charles M. Schulz Museum on Saturday, August 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. as part of the monthly Cartoonist-in-Residence series.
ABOUT LEIGH RUBIN
Leigh began his cartooning career in 1978 when he established his own greeting card company, Rubes Publications. He published his first cartoon collection, the popular Notable Quotes musical cartoons, in 1981. Rubes, Leigh's syndicated single-panel cartoon, began in 1984, and always finds the lighter side of life (and sometimes the grosser side, too), as seen through the eyes of dogs, cows, and even vegetables. Originally self-syndicated, Rubes is now distributed by Creators Syndicate to more than 400 newspapers worldwide, including the Sacramento Bee, Washington Times, Los Angeles Daily News, Houston Chronicle, and Toronto Sun. When he’s not working on his art, Leigh travels around the country giving thought-provoking and entertaining cartoon presentations for professional conferences and conventions.
ABOUT THE CARTOONIST-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM
On the second Saturday of each month from 1 to 3pm, the Schulz Museum hosts its Cartoonist-in-Residence Program, giving visitors a chance to meet and discuss cartooning with a professional cartoonist. In an informal and conversational setting, visitors have the opportunity to see each cartoonist at work, ask questions, and gain a better understanding of various aspects of the cartooning industry. Founded in 2004 by the Charles M. Schulz Museum and the Northern California Chapter of the National Cartoonist Society, the Cartoonist-in-Residence Program helps the Schulz Museum to fulfill its Mission of “building an understanding of cartoonists and cartoon art.”
