It is often the case that a reader does not get to see the Sunday strip as the cartoonist created it. Many times newspapers do not have space to print the top third—or throwaway—panel of the Sunday strips. The throwaway panels are designed to relate to the rest of the strip but cannot be integral to the story. Some cartoonists, like Charles Schulz, used the throwaway panel as an opportunity to display some of their most whimsical and unusual art. |
