This quilt exemplifies the kawaii, or cute, child-like style that has become a cultural phenomenon in the last quarter of a century in Japan. Mostly young women are involved in the “cute” culture, although some young men have adopted the look, too. The style can be found in fashion, home furnishings, toys, and stationery. The huge popularity of Peanuts characters in Japan can partially be explained by their kawaii appeal.
