Peanuts—Found in Translation
Japanese Charcoal Ink Paintings by Yoshiteru Otani

November 12, 2004 through April 11, 2005

Peanuts
—Found in Translation featured more than forty of Yoshi's ink paintings on handmade washi paper that incorporated the Peanuts Gang and Japanese characters in compositions that might be characterized as the visual equivalent of onomatopoeia. For example, one of the paintings, titled "Wind," features a disheveled Charlie Brown, kite, and tangled kite string perched on the kanji character for wind.

All of the paintings reveal Yoshi's trademark whimsical humor and remain true to the characters' personalities. The title of the exhibition alludes to both the images in the paintings reflecting the message of the Japanese calligraphy as well as the fact that Schulz's Peanuts characters continue to speak, in translation, to people worldwide.

Found in Translation has been traveling in Japan since April 2005. Schulz Museum Members get free admission to all venues with their Membership Card. For a list of venues, click here.
